Misty seascape From a question asked by Justin who said  ”I have an image that I took in misty conditions on the west coast of Cornwall. It has been tormenting me for years! I feel that there is a picture waiting to come out, but I can’t get to grips with it.”  Justin was kind enough to send me the image he took and in these videos we will take a look at how we can get that picture he saw out of the image.

Creating a photorealistic HDR image from a single Raw file

DIY HDR – Blending Exposure In this two part video we take a look at how we can use 3 handheld images to produce an HDR image. Starting in Bridge we start  by looking at the metadata and how we can open the Raw files into Photoshop in layers. Part 2 of the video we look at how we can improve the image further by removing colour cast and correcting the lens distortion.

HDR Toning in CS5 In this video we take a look at transforming an image using the HDR Toning filer in CS5. The start image can be download so you can work along with this video.

Sometimes just adding a subtle effect eg rays of sunlight, can really help to transform an image. In this video we look at how we can create the ‘sun rays’ effect and once created, it can easily be adjusted and incorporated into other images.

Autumn Colour’s – In this in depth tutorial we look at how we can enhance the lighting and colour’s in our images. The lighting, combined with the more vibrant colour’s will add real depth to our pictures making them really stand out.

This a great way to improve tones and depth of colour to your images. In the first part of the video we look at improving the detail in both the shadows and highlights, using the spot healing brush (content aware) to remove distractions before  improve the tonal range of the image. Later in the video we see how the same technique can be used on other image. image |image 2

Sometimes our images can look a little too clean, crisp, colourful and new. In this video we look at how we can age an image using colour and tones. This method has been inspired by many TV programmes and films and is a great way to learn more about using Layers

Lighting and colour’s are everything in an image, they can really help to transform it into a winner. Here we look at enhancing the lighting and colour’s by ‘Painting with Light
In this video we look at adding a misty effect to a landscape image . This effect is an ideal way to enhance any image where lighting and weather conditions could benefit from a helping hand in Photoshop.

In this in depth tutorial we look at how we can replace a sky by placing it behind the branches of a tree, or other obstacles. This technique was first used on the CS DVD and has proved very popular

White Balance Camera Raw This tutorial comes from a question asked by one of our members regarding ‘problems with colours’ Donald was kind enough to send me this image as a raw file. It was taking using a flash but he had also been mistakenly set at a high ISO resulting in noise – glad I’m not the only one who forgets to reset the ISO:)

Toning Images can really help to add to the mood and feeling in our pictures. In these videos we will explore some of the many  different ways of toning both in Photoshop and Camera raw

In this video we take a look at retouch a portrait. Starting with brightening the image we then look at softening the skin, removing blemishes before airbrushing. We also look at adding more colour to the eyes - brightening the shadow areas – reducing some of the colours – finishing with  a high-key vignette

Restoring a scanned print – When you scan photographs onto your computer it’s surprising how different they appear. You start to notice the grain and other imperfections, possibly because you were used to viewing it at 6×4 or 7×5  as a print and now all of a sudden there it is large on your screen.

Portrait Toned I have been interested in this style of toning for a while.  So when a member of my web site contacted me with with a link to some images with similar style toning, I thought it would be worth producing a video with my interpretation of this style.

Portrait makeover/retouching - In this set of 5 videos (over an hour runtime)  we take a look at how we can retouch our portrait images. The main goal is to keep the portrait realistic and avoid an artificial looking image. Some of the changes are very subtle with adjustments being made as we progress through the portrait.

Toned and Darken style image. In this video we take a look at how we can transform an image taken in daylight into a toned and darken style image. The image is completely adjustable on all layers allowing you to change the tones and lighting at any time.

Grungy Text Montage.   In this video we look at how we can transform an image by adding texture, toning and text effects to the image. We first look at applying the texture layer and toning the image. We then look at different ways in which we can achieve the Matrix text style and using an image to create a unique text effect brush .

This video tutorial explores how we can transform a portrait using some of the tools in Camera Raw CS4. We then look at importing the image as a Smart Object into Photoshop. In Photoshop we further enhance the skin tone, adjust the eye lashes and finish off with a lighting effect.

Dark Toned Portrait – This is a technique that has become increasingly popular. In this in-depth video we explore how we can transform a portrait taken in daylight into a far more dramatic looking image

Actions, Smart objects, Camera Raw

In these 4 videos we will take a look at creating a vintage style image, starting in Camera raw and working our way through to the finished image in Photoshop.

 

 In these two videos we first take a look at how we can toning an image and adjust the colours using Camera Raw. Then in the second video we take this a stage further by applying a HDR look to the image in Camera Raw.

Simon, from the members area  asked if the humming bird in his picture could be moved as he found the bird feeder distracting. In this video we take a look at how the Patch tool can be used to both move and remove items for our images.

Using Refine Edges and Puppet Warp in CS5


When I first saw this image after downloading it from my camera I wasn’t too keen on it. After looking at it a couple of weeks later I came up with an idea of how it could be improved using Camera Raw, and in this video I’ve demonstrated the technique I used to achieve this.

In this video we  take look at how we can process our raw  images using Adobe Camera Raw. Starting by correcting the exposure then checking and adjusting the White Balance before moving on to  other tools such as the Gradient tool, Spot Removal, Adjustment Brush, Lens Correction, Snap Shots and seeing how these can be used to improve our image.  I took this image while I was in Spain, very much a grab shot and when I looked at it after downloading I didn’t think it could  be used.  Recently I was asked a question by Bruce about using textures and that’s when I had the idea of applying  textures to this image and creating a painterly effect.

Montage

Rusty Montage After a recent visit to a waterways museum I had an idea for combing two images together,  one being the rust and the other a picture was of some old barges which was Ok but nothing special. So that was the idea and in this video we will take a look at the technique I used to create the montage and turning it into a dramatic image

In these 2 videos we will show you how you can combine multiple images into a single Photo Montage. Creating and using a template will make it easier to create other montages and it is fully adjustable, even the images can be exchange

 In this video we take a look at converting a Raw file in Topaz Adjust and  adding a real sense drama to the image. The image is also corrected using the Lens correction filter and we can keep the PSD file fully adjustable using Smart Objects

 Creating an Antique look using Nik.  We Start with Nik Silver Efex Pro and Nik Color Efex Pro 3 before adding the finishing touches with Adjustment layers.

 In this video we are going to take a look at using Photomatix Pro and Tone Mapping  a single image. The video is in 2 parts,starting in Photomatix where we look at the adjustment to achieve the ‘look’ we are trying to create. Then in part 2 cropping and enhancing the image further in Photoshop

  The original image was a handheld shot taken with the Lumix G3 and although I was very pleased with it I wanted to bring out more of the great the detail and colour of Bristol Cathedral. Topaz Adjust is just the filter for doing this and when we have created the effect we are looking for it can be saved as a preset

Using Topaz Adjust 4 and Topaz Clean 3 In this video we take a look at my favourite Photoshop plugin Topaz Labs, and using two of their filter Topaz Adjust 4 and Topaz Clean 3. In the first video we look at how the filters can be added and easily adjusted using Smart Filter in Photoshop. Part 2 we look at editing the colours and further adjustment of Topaz using Smart filter

The Wine Bar fx Photoshop & Topaz. In this video we look at how we can transform a snap shot into a picture that would look great hanging on any wall. We start in Camera Raw then use Photoshop to enhance the details in the image before applying the effects using Topaz Adjust and Topaz Clean

Starting with one Raw file we first look at how we can  convert it in Photomatix Pro and save it as a 16 or 8 bit Tiff or Jpg image. In the next stage we can further process the image to produce a painterly effect before finishing in Photoshop
